According to the Wall Street Journal, the NASA Astronaut Corps* trains with rowing because it’s so efficient, utilizing 86% of muscles in the body- 30 minutes of rowing can have the same physical impact as 90 minutes of other forms of exercise (*not an official endorsement by NASA).



PopSugarFitness notes that rowing mechanics harmoniously transfer to other physical activities outside of the gym because of universal muscle recruitment patterns.



Rowing is an exercise and activity designed for everyone, regardless of age or fitness level. Iron Man triathlete Josh Crosby extols the virtues of rowing: great for injury prevention, rehab and runners because it is a low impact alternative to other activities.  Health House has had students ranging in age from teenagers to those well in their 70s, as well as coaching students who were severely overweight and unable to perform other types of exercise.
